Culture
and Recreation Programs
One of Tonari Gumi's goals is to provide opportunities
for members of the greater Japanese Canadian community
including family, friends, visitors and supporters
to participate in a variety of activities that promote
healthy living. These activities range from traditional
Japanese crafts to mainstream Canadian activities
and the unique combinations that arise from the meeting
of these two cultures.
Special
Activities & Events,
Performances and Concerts
There are many reasons and opportunities to celebrate
at Tonari Gumi. The 'Hinamatsuri' in March, a Sake
Tasting event, our annual Dinner and Dance Fund-raiser
in June, the Powell Street Festival, a Volunteer Appreciation
party, an annual Christmas party and more! In addition,
visiting artists from Japan periodically give presentations
at our drop-in centre and there are always a few weekend
excursions arranged each year to various places of
interest. These events appeal to a broad range of
participants and it is exciting to share the fun with
all generations of the Japanese Canadian community
and beyond.
