TONARI GUMI OFFERS A VERIETY PROGRAMS TO PROMOTE SOCIAL ACTIVITY AND WELINESS OF SENIOR CITIZENS.

HEALTH EXERCISE & MASSAGES
It is very important to be active regardless of your age. Probably good health & active life style will be decided factors to the seniors. This program will offer very active exercise with in the relaxed atmosphere & environment.

GATEBALL
GATEBALL is Japanese sport program for seniors and it is similar to CRICKET in the western world. There are 5 players in each team and using certain tactices to win the game. Tonarigumi teams are playing against the Buddhist Church teams in the Oppenheimer Park regularly and also taking part in the regional tournament and International competition too.

JAPANESE LUNCH PROGRAM
This program is liked so many seniors such as traditional Miso soup and Tempura etc.

There are a couple programs for the seniors who need certain supports for participating usual social & health activities in the community.

Homebound & Outreach Adventure program are for immobile seniors who have certain difficulty to participate usual community activities. Usually there are a couple reasons for those seniors who quite often staying in the homes. One reason is that due to their age, physically they need certain supports from others. Another reason is that they have certain difficulties in communicating with others due to their mothertongue is Japanese. Usually those 2 reasons make them stay-in the homes.

In HOMEBOUND program, seniors enjoy some games, light exercise, and Japanese lunch. This program is operated by Japanese staff and volunteers.

OUTREACH ADVENTURE GROUP.
This program is offering certain actities in & out door for seniors. We go to several places such as botanical gardens, steveston, Harrison hot springs, and etc. Sometimes we just go to lunch at some nice restaurant in Vancouver. This program is very similar to Homebound program, however, this program will be for more active seniors.

For those 2 programs we mentioned above, we receive some help from the Community Partnership Program of the Continuing Care Divison in the Devision of Vancouver Health Department. For continuing our programs, Tonarigumi is always welcome your support and donation. Thank you.
